Carl Hershey

Wrote his first book, Reversing Thrust, after a series of dramatic and life-changing realizations, causing him to question every aspect of his childhood experience.  Beyond the outward appearance and assumption of his happy childhood, he found a painful truth in having an ever present father who was never there.  That truth, the emotional abandonment of his father, haunted him well beyond the years of his mother’s early and untimely death, to become an unbearable burden that he could no longer carry within himself.

Mr. Hershey’s healing process began at age thirty-two, through an emotional outpouring of past memories and experiences, resultant of the relationship with his father.  During that process, he was enlightened to and finally able to see, how, “trust betrayed” in childhood caused overwhelming hardship in his adult life.  He also studied his past relationship with each parent and sibling, to understand the conflicted natures embodied in his own life, derived through the lives of his parents.

Brought together in his book, Mr. Hershey shares his struggle to have and maintain healthy, meaningful relationships of closeness and intimacy.  As a man, he studied the subject of “Commitment and Intimacy”, to understand his fears and responses and learn the basis of those reactions.  Of course, the healing turned deeply spiritual, as he began to appreciate and understand the close and loving nature of God, a heavenly Father; making deep connections to origins of everything present in his life.

Reversing Thrust is not a ten-step, how-to, fix-all or tell-all book.  Rather, Carl’s objectives for this book and his story, are to stimulate thoughtful and unique questions and dialogues within the minds of readers.  In his own words, “My truth was carried inside, waiting, until I was ready to ask the questions.  I needed to find the questions, that ultimately led me back to the truth.”
